The Paradoxical Allure of Blue
Northern Beaches Sydney, 2021
“Rarely found in living nature, yet its scattered light fills the vastness of far-away mountain and ocean horizons, skies and seas. The universally adored colour infuses our lives in a powerful way, providing calming, serene, healing spaces. We find solace, order and hope in its hues, and by being present in those boundless blues of the sky and ocean, we are reminded of our own infinite possibilities and fragility. Although we seek out its calming power, the colour blue also evokes complex feelings of coldness, depression, distance, fear, isolation and introspection. Our individual response to the colour blue opens up an emotional dimension, making it a never-ending source of inspiration and artistic symbolism for me. This image is from my award-winning series “Blue of Lockdown” and uses in-camera ICM photography techniques.”
